High Schools in Kelowna
Kelowna is home to three high schools for students in all catchment areas. These schools include École Okanagan Mission Secondary School, Rutland Senior Secondary School, and École Kelowna Secondary School. Each of these schools provides the next step of your child’s education. Whether your student is in french immersion or English there is an opportunity for all kids in attendance. About École Okanagan Mission Secondary School
École Okanagan Mission Secondary School is a high school within the Mission catchment area. OKM teaches students in grades 8 through 12. This school is located on Gordon Drive in the Upper Mission area near Kettle Valley. Moreover, OKM is a fairly new school with some recent additions made in 2022. This school has two gymnasiums, a drama room, a woodshop, foods classroom, a weight room, and an expansive outdoor field. The OKM school day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:15 pm. On average there are roughly 1,500 students in attendance at OKM each year. Students rotate through 4 periods per day and 8 classes per semester. Once students complete their four years at OKM, they have the option to attend post-secondary school at either UBC Okanagan or Okanagan College. OKM offers a wide range of courses and athletics to cater to students’ interests and future plans. During the fall, students will have the opportunity to play volleyball, rugby, swimming, or girls’ field hockey. In the winter, students can participate in basketball or volleyball. Finally, in the spring, kids can choose to play golf, field hockey, track and field, tennis, badminton, ultimate frisbee, soccer, or track, and field. OKM also offers a wide range of clubs like STEM, math club, debate, language arts, writing and so many more. These are offered at lunches and after school on various days of the week. Furthermore, students can enroll in one of four sports academies like soccer, swimming, hockey, and golf.

About École Kelowna Secondary School
École Kelowna Secondary School is a high school in the Glenmore, Lower Mission, South Kelowna, and Downtown catchment area. KSS teaches students in grades 10-12. This school is located on Raymer Avenue near K.L.O middle and the Okanagan College campus. KSS has been in Kelowna for a long period of time and was rebuilt after a fire in 1979. The school has been a cornerstone for the community since its re-open in 2002. This school begins at 9 am and ends at 3:15 pm each day. Furthermore, students rotate through 4 different periods per school day and 8 per semester. For instance, day one would be 1234, and day two would be 5678. Each year, KSS educates over 1800 students! KSS offers a large number of courses and athletics for students enrolled. During the fall, students will have the opportunity to play volleyball, rugby, field hockey, football, or cross country. In the winter, students can participate in curling, wrestling, basketball, or volleyball. Finally, in the spring, kids can choose to play golf, soccer, rugby, field hockey, or track and field. Moreover, the school also offers an extensive journalism program that allows students to write and publish work to the school’s Censor This website! This school also has a notable and loved Outdoor Education program that students look forward to each year. KSS is a French immersion school with options for Enligh speaking students as well.
Rutland Senior Secondary School
Rutland Senior Secondary is a high school in the Rutland catchment area. RSS teaches students in grades 9-12. This school is located on Rutland Road North in the Rutland North area. RSS teaches approximately 1,500 students each school year and the staff is diligent about maintaining a high standard for learning. In addition, RSS has been in operation in Kelowna since 1952. At this school, the day begins at 9 am and ends at 3:16 pm Monday through Friday. Moreover, students rotate through 2 different periods per school day and 4 per semester. Once students complete high school at RSS they are able to enroll in a post-secondary institution like UBC Okanagan or Okanagan College. RSS offers a large number of courses and athletics for students enrolled. During the fall, students will have the opportunity to play volleyball, football, soccer, or cross country. In the winter, students can participate in basketball or volleyball. Finally, in the spring, those going to school at RSS can choose to play golf, rugby, soccer, or track and field. In addition, the school also offers an amazing selection of electives and extracurricular activities to encourage students to follow their interests. Some of these courses include dance, theatre, sports academies, trades, firefighting, EMR, and much more! Rutland Senior Secondary does not have a french immersion program.
