This month our focus will be on the elementary schools in Downtown Kelowna and South East Kelowna. Elementary Schools Near Houses in Downtown Kelowna
Kelowna’s school district (SD23) has strict catchments to ensure that all students in attendance are in their respective neighbourhoods. Moreover, this helps keep the number of students at an appropriate size for the given facility. For example, denser neighbourhoods (catchments) will have larger schools to accommodate the number of students.
The focal point of this article is on elementary schools near houses in Downtown Kelowna and South East Kelowna. Generally, Downtown Kelowna’s catchment runs from Highway 97 to Clifton and the Knox Mountain area. See the table below for reference.

About Schools Downtown.
Bankhead Elementary is a Kindergarten through Grade 6 school. This school is located on Wilson Avenue, off of Clement. Furthermore, the school is operated by principal Peter Gallo and Administrative Assistant Cheryl Nanci. Bankhead Elementary begins at 8:25 am and ends at 2:30 pm. However, the school offers supervision from 8:10 am until 2:45 pm. Staff at Bankhead are continuously working to create engaging class plans to ensure students remain interested in the subject matter. They regularly monitor students’ progress through a variety of assessment tools and communicate often with parents and/or guardians.
The school averages about 345 students per school year. Moreover, their mascot is a bulldog. Like many schools in the district, Bankhead strives to educate students about the importance of being a Thinker, Collaborator, Innovator, and Contributor. Writing is a major focus of this school’s curriculum.
For those interested, BHE provides a breakfast club for students that begin at 8:00 am in room 10. It is funded partially by the President’s Choice Children’s Charity. The Breakfast Club is always seeking new volunteers to help ease the workload!
Students in attendance at BHE can also participate in a variety of extracurricular activities such as We-day, Spirit Teams, Social Justice, Speech Arts, Wrestling, basketball, Games Club, Volleyball, Running, Outdoor Playground PALS, battle of the books, and more! About Schools Near Houses in South East Kelowna
South East Kelowna Elementary School
South Kelowna Elementary is a new school located 10 kilometers south of the downtown core. This school is part of the South East Kelowna neighbourhood where most homes are located on farms, vineyards, or orchards. South Kelowna Elementary boasts a vast 18-acre property. Thus, making it the biggest school ground in school district 23. There are tons of outdoor facilities for kids to explore and have fun with. For instance, a full-sized soccer field, four mini soccer fields, a senior baseball diamond, a multipurpose rink, two playgrounds, and a tree park area. There are a variety of outside-of-school events hosted at SKE.
Typically, the school is home to around 240 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 and their mascot is an eagle. Furthermore, there is a staff of 24, including support, teaching, and admin staff. The school’s main goal is to teach students to have a growth mindset in and out of the classroom. There are opportunities for learning assistance, counseling, speech and language therapy, hard of hearing assistance, resource and special needs education, and vision aid when needed. SKE works diligently to ensure all students are looked after at home and at school.
South Kelowna Elementary partners with the City of Kelowna, which gives this school more opportunities for extracurricular activities. There is often a winter and summer activities flyer posted on the school website under “community recreation”. This allows students to connect with their peers in the community.
